11/15/08 Welcome to Time of Prophets. Currently there is an activity check in progress from 11/15 to 11/30. Everyone MUST post there. Anyone that has not yet made a character has until the 30th to do so. We are in need of males so everyone refrain from making females right away. Alpha positions are still open to anyone interested, PM me for specifics for alphas. Due to past alphas, needs for an alpha bio are a bit stricter now.

Temperatures are steadily beginning to drop. Chilly winds comb through the woodlands of the Avalon, frost nipping at the tundra while chilly coastal winds batter the Druids. To the south, Darkrais are experiencing a period of relief from severe southern heats before winter sets in. In the far north caribou are on the move, in the Avalon forests the deer have finished their summer rut and are preparing for winter. Cold rains cycle through in the early mornings leaving dense fogs to roll in from the coasts. Standing on the mainland, the fog can grow so dense you can't see the island of the Druids.

Hugging the warm currents of the wind was the harmonious trickle of moving water. And as if to add to the allure of the temptation, the sweet scent of moss and wet bark accompanied it. The ashen wolf paused, unable to resist mulling over the pleasant doors this sudden discovery opened for her. Gauging the distance, Szkoda estimated that the source of this new enticement lay just over a mile northeast of her current location. A relatively short distance. And one that could be easily incorporated into her pre-assigned route. A quick detour, if you will. Crouching a few inches lower in the high grasses, Szkoda shimmied her hindquarters.

She'd always loved a good romp through enemy territory.

The ivory wolf, in truth, had been on the prowl since daybreak. Not solely within the territorial limits of the Avalon Pack -although the majority of the past hours had been spent along its borders-, but also within her own barren homelands. It could technically be classified as nothing more than a simple guard job. A Sentry merely overseeing the safety and security of its territory. All that really differed was the small, virtually unimportant detail of scouting beyond said territory at irregular intervals and into another's. More specifically, Avalon's.

Slinking silently through another field of lofty grass, Szkoda slid beneath a crop of drooping willows. Her multi-hued gaze fixated on the flowing stream not twenty meters away as her nose and ears remained alert. Her assignment had not been specific. In hindsight, Koda acknowledged that they never were; as room was always allowed for improvisation and slight, tactical alterations. The minikin wolf, however, consented that this slight deviation from her trail fell under neither category. More so, she was simply parched from the long hours of travel. Flicking her gaze skyward, Szkoda took note of how high the sun's position was. Twilight was still a long ways off.

Which meant she had plenty of time to spare for a drink. And that was exactly what she intended to do. Prowling soundlessly to the edge of the water, the white wolf dipped her muzzle to the rippling surface and lapped at the cool liquid. A contented sigh rumbling through her chest.

Oh yes, it'd been worth it.

It was a taunting scent at first that led the ashy grey femme away from the heart of Avalon's vast forests. The scent was both familiar and unfamiliar but that was what made Kiki curious. It wasn't a smell she'd ever found in Avalon territory before but it was so familiar Kiki felt like kicking herself for not knowing what it was off the top of her head. So, heading off from the woodland, Kiki angled her swift course toward the Willow Hollow along the Quicksilver Creek. Her sleek dark grey body moved easily through the dense woodlands of the Avalon Forest, darker paws beating nearly silently against the ground. In the back of her mind Kiki knew what she was doing was stupid. She should look for Dustin or maybe even Kohl rather then go off and face something unknown on her own. That was what she should do but Kiki had never been one for doing what she should.

The sun rose to its noontime position as Kiki approached the willows, slowing her pace and sinking lower against the low cover of the willows. Her sterling grey eyes scanned several nearby willows but found nothing. Moving forward slowly, Kiki drew closer to the waterside, tucking herself behind one of the bigger weeping willows and peering carefully around the base of the tree to see the other side of the creek. Instantly she felt as if her stomach had been filled with ice water.

Standing on the other side was one of the biggest faes Kiki had ever seen which was saying something because she herself was small. Her eyes were oddly colored and the scent hanging around her suddenly made all kinds of sense. It was a Darkrai. Kiki's limbs locked and suddenly she felt like she couldn't run if she wanted to and she did want to. Darkrais never came this far north, not usually but Kiki couldn't really blame them. Winter would come soon and Darkrai territory wasn't exactly the most abundant. Still, Darkrais were no laughing matter. The wolfess was dangerously close to the Avalon border, actually standing on it.

Kiki was a small wolf, this wolf was huge. Dustin was nowhere around. Kohl, the only male and a big male at that was nowhere around either. Sonya wouldn't be much help except as a distraction but Kiki would never ask her to do that. Considering past pack size in the Avalon pack, this generation was small, three females and a male. Not exactly enough to chase off even this fae. Kiki settled for simply watching, not quite trusting herself to confront the Darkrai or run away. She wouldn't run. It would give the Darkrai's the wrong impression so instead she simply watched.

The world was just as serene and calm as it had been moments before. The creek still flowed with the soothing sound like tinkling bells. The cool wind still caressed her thick pelt and tossed the foliage into a gentle rustle. Not a single thing had changed. Or, Szkoda amended silently, such a statement would be true if you took exception to the Hollow's most recent guest. With her ashen muzzle still dipped into the water's refreshing surface, the Darkrai kept her uniquely mismatched eyes trained on her own rippling reflection. There was a quick flash of pink as her tongue darted out to lap again at the cool liquid. To all appearances, it seemed as if the cunning Sentry were completely oblivious to the fact that she'd drawn the attention of an unwanted visitor. Although, given enough time in the white wolf's presence, anyone would know that such an assumption couldn't be any further from the truth.

Szkoda had heard the Avalon pack member before she'd caught the trail of her foreign scent. It was uncommon, but not entirely out of the ordinary. The harebrained wolf had, and Koda strongly suspected it was unknowingly so, approached her current position from downwind. But although such a maneuver fooled most animals, and even wolves, this Darkrai was one of the few exceptions. Though it had concealed the femme's strange aroma from the bleached wolf's nose for a short time, Koda never relied on a single sense. Her ears had pricked to attention, her head had shot up, and her muscles had tensed in the slow beginnings of anticipation; all long before the Avalon had even come close to the reaching her location near the Creekbed.

The crunch of dried leaves was unmistakable, both upwind and down.

The fleeting idea to disengage and slip soundlessly to back to the borderlines had flashed briefly into Koda's mind as the best choice of action. At first. But one slow and careful inhale had banished that possibility completely. The other wolf was either completely foolish or utterly unfamiliar with the Darkrai scent, because she was absolutely and totally alone. Szkoda's tail wagged. Of course she had plenty of time to fall back from her current position, therefor avoiding the enemy wolf altogether. But why exclude herself from the fun?

So now Szkoda stood languidly with her ears rotated only slightly forward to track her guest's whereabouts. Her mind whirled with potential schemes, each one fighting its way forward to be chosen as the next course of action. It was only mere seconds before one won out. And when the Weather-Weaver weighed the idea and its possible outcomes, the intensity in her odd eyes flared to life. One with cunning, the other with deviltry. It was an opportunity her inner beast simply could not pass up. Nie na wasz zycie.

For an instant, Szkoda remained as she was. Harmlessly enjoying the water offered by the small creek, seemingly unaware of everything around her. Then, without any prior warning, she moved. Not fast. Not at any alarming pace. In fact, she moved with the deliberate slowness of a wolf stalking its prey. She lifted her muzzle away from the stream's surface, ignoring the water that dripped lazily from the wet fur. Her consuming gaze rose higher, fastening onto the Avalon's and holding it. And for an long moment, Koda did nothing more than stare. Letting the other know through the silence that hiding had never been an option. Then glistening white fangs flashed in a devilish grin. The expression was suddenly one of boundless mischief and coiled anticipation.

'Oh great Nix I'm a birdbrain!' Kiki chided herself as she kept a weary eye on the snow-colored femmora at the creekside. Why had she not simply called for Kohl to accompany her? He would have done it, she was sure. Any unfamiliar scent was supposed to be reported plus, Kohl was big and powerful. Kiki however was skinny, small and quite powerless. She had none of the fancy powers the Druids had or that Kohl and Dustin boasted. Instead, Kiki was powerless like Sonya except a bit more coordinated at times. The only thing that stood out about Kiki apart from her attracting personality had to be her sterling eyes but she knew better then to try and lie her way into tricking a Darkrai, male or female.

Catching the sound of the ivory femme moving in the water, Kiki peered around the trunk of the willow to watch the invader wearily. What she found surprised her. It was the fae's gaze, vivid and unusual burning into her own sterling gaze. Instantly Kiki's small frame stiffened as the young femme stared back, trapped in the Darkrai's unusual eyes. Something in Kiki, whether pride or foolishness, clicked into place and Kiki's startled gaze hardened. The Darkrai knew she was there, might as well make some sort of move rather then sit there like a frozen coward.

Pushing herself up, Kiki stepped around the tree into full view. She drew herself up into her full, but still runty, height and tried to imagine herself being bigger, taller and more confident. Oh if only it were true! Oh well. She was used to being underestimated because of her size. Kiki raised a defiant gaze to the Darkrai's and curled back her silver lips to reveal her ivory razors. A growl rumbled in the fae's narrow chest, hackles bristling and her tail rising in aggression. Spacing her paws a bit, Kiki took a stance that would allow her to flee or fight depending on the Darkrai's reaction to her gutsy challenge. In her mind however, Kiki was praying the fae would leave or that Kohl or Dustin would find her before things got too messy. This wolfess could gut her in a minute and Kiki was sure of it though she was debating her chances of fleeing and luring the fae to Kohl or one of her other packmates. In the dense forest, Kiki was as fleet-footed as a deer. Darkrais lived in wastelands with few forestlands, perhaps Kiki could use that to her advantage?

Foolish, indeed.

The thought rolled through the Darkrai's wicked mind like warm honey; delightfully sweet and completely satisfying. She looked forward to the next few minutes of her life, and this encounter, like a grounded pup awaited playtime. Tracking her quarry's antics with rapt attention, the Weather-Weaver's anticipation slowly simmered to a boil. The Avalon femme was not only of a smaller build, a difficult feat to achieve as Szkoda was considered a runt among her deadly Pack, but also possessed no powers that Koda could readily scent. Her mysterious gaze nearly glowed with the revelation. This was a combination that, when assessed by a mind controlled by wit and deviltry, appealed to the Darkrai's inner beast like rare steak on a convenient platter.

Koda resisted the overwhelming urge to licked her chops at the notion. Instead, she chose to watch the act being performed in her honor. The smoky wolf had finally abandoned the cover of the bushes; perhaps seeing the uselessness of hiding from someone who never needed eyes to see in the first place. Szkoda doubted it. This strange wolf was utterly oblivious to who and what she faced. And as Koda's richly-hued eyes swept the Avalon's false posture with a growing sense of amusement, her assumption was only clarified. Didn't the wolf realize that Szkoda could smell the unease she tried so valiantly to mask as easily as if it were written on her shoulder? That the only thing standing between them was a shallow creek? Performing the quick measurements in her head, Koda realized it was a distance she could cover in a few simple bounds. The white wolf's mirth continued to climb.

And finally shattered when the powerless femme took the hefty risk of issuing a warning growl. Szkoda gave a bark of laughter; a lilting sound that pierced the quiet of the creek and filled it with the warmth of merriment. It lasted for only an instant, but when Koda spoke a moment later, you could still detect a dark chuckle underlying her words. "Glupiec.

You're quite the lively one, aren't you?"
The ashen wolf's dagger-edged fangs flashed in a menacing smile. "Do you know that you are calling death onto your own shoulders? Albo duzo gorszy?" Szkoda had no intention of ruining her fun by scaring the poor thing off, so she lapsed fluidly into her own tongue for the last question. Then, after a moment's pause and careful concideration, she lowered her damp muzzle. The visual affect it had on the Darkrai's posture was intimidating. And her next words were sinfully quiet, the humor fading to leave only a sinister mischief behind. "Sure you do..."

"I know you're a monster that bleeds darkness" Kiki snapped back at the ivory fae, shoving her fear and unease as far back in her mind as it could go. Her pride was rapidly coming to the surface as the fae seemed to silently mock her. Too many seasons had Kiki gone under the cruel eye of others thinking she was a helpless runt. She had no special power, no great speed or overwhelming power but she was determined to do what she could for the Avalon Pack. If that meant dying then so be it, at least if anything her death would give the Avalons some sort of warning that Darkrais were getting all too close to the borders and in fact crossing them. This was her pack and powers or no powers, Kiki would defend it. Dustin had vanished as of late so Kohl was the only one Kiki really had any hopes of finding her, or perhaps finding her body unless Sonya found her by some unlucky turn of events.

Coiling her muscles under her smoky pelt, Kiki kept herself ready for the fae to leap across the Quicksilver Creek and attack. Multiple warnings had told Kiki to never attack unless she had a sure victory or a sure cause to fight. The fae was practically prancing on the very edge of Darkrai territory. One step into the waters of the Quicksilver Creek and she was the prey of the Avalons. Sure prey might be a bit of an odd term to use in this situation but it was all Kiki could think up. Surely Kohl or someone would try to avenge her if this fae killed her? Kiki ahd no intention of making it easy though. Avalons were dangerous in ways far different then the dangers of Darkrais.

Kiki had once heard a myth told by an old brute that the Avalon Forest protected its rightful dwellers, hiding them in times of trouble and reaching out with thorn bushes to ensnare prisoners but Kiki had never had much evidence of the forest actively saving a wolf. Sure Avalons felt safe within the deep ravines, flowed like water through the trees and florished in the woodland but Kiki wasn't sure if that would be enough to save her. Kiki had a plan. The fem across from her was bigger then she was. Kiki was small. She could easily move through the forest but this fem could not. She was used to barren wastelands and darkness, not the sunlight or deep brush of the Avalon Forests.

"You'd best back away Darkrai" Kiki taunted, refusing to take her gaze from the other. "These forests don't like unwelcome guests."

don't tell me how life is;;
cause i don't really wanna know;;
don't tell me how this game ends;;
cause we'll just see how it goes...

The soft and gentle thud of pads upon the ground was the only sound heard to Shadow as he padded his way through his lands without the slightest care of his destination. It mattered not to him; his mind was filled with other things that mattered more. His gray-brown orbs cast around his packlands for more marvels of nature to ponder.

Wrenching him from his thoughts, a breeze flew toward Shadow and filled his nostrils with familiar scents of the world along with the smell of someone familiar. But there was more than just that. Another scent.

A Darkrai scent.

Orbs wide and auds pricked, Shadow placed his muzzle to the ground, hoping to find a more solid trail. His wish was granted just as he realized the familiar scent's origin: Kiki.

Kiki was rather small, and Shadow, while not being the biggest around, appeared to dwarf her. He was almost sure that if she'd been tangled up with this Darkrai, she had little to no chance, assuming the Darkrai wouldn't hold back. Locking onto the direction Kiki's oder was coming from, Shadow set off at an amazing speed, his aim apparently the Willow Hollow, which came into view only moments later. Without slowing himself, Shadow's midnight-black pelt slipped easily behind the willow trees in time to hear the large trespasser's comment to Kiki. A flood of pride filled him as he realized just how hard his pack member was fighting; he could smell both fear and determination on her.

His deep voice boomed out behind the willows as he stepped into view of the two femmes. "She speaks the truth. Tread carefully, Darkrai, for these lands and forests are merciless." He suppressed a growl, watching angrily behind a calm mask.

i'm going down in flames;;
i'm falling into this again;;
now i'm all the way down here;;
i'm falling down.

The easiest way to describe a Darkrai's laugh is through shadows. Every pup, at one point or another, feared them. When darkness crept in and devoured all light their fur would stand on end as chills sent cold shivers down the length of their spine. Because no one truly knows what lies in that darkness, do they? And it's that unknown, that uncertainty of what could lie prowling in wait among the shadows, that causes the fear. Just as it is with the laugh of a Darkrai wolf. The nameless terror that could be laying in wait just beneath their malign humor; That's what frightens most wolves. What puts them on edge around their malevolent brethren. It's what they should fear. A Darkrai's amusement.

It could be a dangerous, and even deadly thing. And it's because of this reasoning that Szkoda wasn't usually welcomed with open arms into those territories she invaded; aside from the fact that she was invading, of course. Her humor, courtesy to her laid-back nature, was boundless. Her love and adoration for mischief and chaos allowed her to find a devilish form of amusement in almost any situation. But somehow, her laughter differed from that of the rest of her Pack. It was a minute difference, sometimes even undetectable, but it still existed. It was as if the shadows of her laughter, rather than engulfing the light completely, hovered just outside its boundaries. Threatening in its very presence, and possibly even worse in that it created yet one more unknown. At any moment it could consume, but it was impossible to ever tell when.

And that, in some cases, made Szkoda an even more dangerous adversary.

You wouldn't know when she made the transition from wicked play to heartless murder until the moment it happened...

"If I bleed Darkness..." The ivory wolf disregarded the Avalon's other statements, her fangs still gleaming in a smile that now held less mirth than it did menace. Her eyes practically swam with the intensity of her deviltry. "...then is it Light I'll find when I tear you apart?" Her muzzle dropped another notch as the muscles beneath her silken white pelt coiled imperceptibly. Her next words were nothing more than a deadly whisper. "Biec, little wolf." Her tendons bunched, and for emphasis she began to repeat her final warning. But the word Run never rolled across her tongue.

Szkoda's body stilled noticeably. Her right ear twitched as her head came up to an alert posture, nostrils flared. Her hypnotic gaze remained fixed upon the femme, but her senses reached out into the distance. Seeing for her what her eyes could not. And what they detected was a presence that could very well end her fun before it began. Przeklety. What a shame... How she hated wolves who interrupted a good time. But when the pitch-colored male slipped into view a moment later, the menace in her devilish grin was gone. Seemingly forgotten for the time being. Finally turning her unique gaze to the more dangerous of the two Avalons, the Darkrai lowered her head once more. She ignored his words, and instead spoke as if she hadn't heard them at all. "Traf. Just in time to save your puppy..." Her voice was warm, the tone utterly misleading.

Kiki's growl deepened in anger as the Darkrai retorted. Were all Darkrais like this? Were there some that were worse? Kiki was sure there were because this fae was obviously a scout of some sort like those that patrolled the Avalon lands. Kiki herself sometimes volunteered as a scout but only on rare occasions but knew they were held in respect lower then that of a warrior. In any case a Darkrai warrior wouldn't wander as far as the Quicksilver Creek unless it was for an invasion and this fae was far from an invading force. Frightening she may seem but Kiki was sure she wasn't a war scout, just a normal border scout. She hoped.

Still, scout or aged warrior it was insulting to hear the fem's voice. It was obvious she thought Kiki was no threat. She had no powers and yes she was a runt but Kiki was NOT going to bow down and back off with her tail tucked. Her coal-colored fur bristled, sterling eyes hardening with her anger. Her lips raised to expose more of her fangs. Behind her however, Kiki heard the wind rattle in the leaves of the trees, dry with the coming winter. She didn't move, didn't glance back but dearly hoped it was Kohl. The scent and following voice however, dashed Kiki's hopes. Instead she found herself worrying. Glancing back, Kiki's heart sank. Another wolf she didn't know. Was he a Darkrai? Was he an Avalon or maybe just some weird wanderer? Kiki's tail rose in aggression as she backed away a step, away from the male, weary of him.

"Sorry sweetie, don't know him" Kiki snapped back as a reply to the wolfess's sneer. "More likely one of your little buddies."

It was hard not knowing who was or wasn't an enemy. Kiki didn't spend a lot of time with the massed pack, she just didn't like being called runt all the time. If the male knew the forest as well as he claimed, perhaps he was a packmate but Kiki wasn't counting her stars yet.
